It has been brought to the attention of ownership that we missed out on letting you know that ALL preordered books from the previous announcement will be signed by their respective authors -- it's been mentioned for Chimeric Machines, but not Starkweather Dreams and Stays Crunchy in Milk.  If you have a particular inscription you'd like, please include this in the special comments of the order form, or if you've already ordered, feel free to use out contact form to let us know -- we'll get this info to the author(s).

Thanks!

Book News! PDF Print E-mail

Well, it's been awhile since an update, but that doesn't mean things aren't going on:

Congratulations to Adrienne Jones, whose novel Brine placed in the top ten at the Preditors and Editors 2008 poll for best horror novel.  There might be some argument about genre, but not about the awesomeness of the book.AJ

P&E Top Ten! AJ says, buy this book, dammit!

In other news, CGP is VERY excited to announce the impending publication of two fantastic books of poetry this year:

Chimeric Machines

Our old friend Lucy A Snyder will be giving us Chimeric Machines, set to arrive on virtual shelves within days, now.  This collection is both stark and beautiful, and will make you smarter by reading it -- even smarter than you are by buying it in the first place.  Don't take out word for it -- Tom Piccirilli told us it was so:

"Okay, so you've picked up this collection, which already proves that you're sharper than the kid you sat behind in Homeroom who used to spit in his textbooks, your step-brother George who used to call you "bookworm" and thumb your glasses, and the automotive shop teacher who caught you with Leaves of Grass in the tenth grade and told you that poetry is just "namby-pamby rhymes about rocks and rivers..."" (from the introduction).

Also coming our way is our first book from poet Christopher Conlon, Starkweather Dreams.  This collection offers a look into the minds and hearts of America's (arguably) most inspirational serial killers - Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate.

"Charlie Starkweather (1938-1959) was a serial spree killer, not the most heinous serial killer in American history, but certainly one of the most notorious, his saga spawning numerous movies and books.  Writing in a vivid and lucid style from multiple viewpoints  -- Charlie, his teenage girlfriend-accomplice Caril Ann, some of their victims, and even Charlie's parents -- Christopher Conlon revisits the Starkweather tragedy.  Whether you are familiar with the story or not, the poems in this collection deliver a series of searing portraits, often graphically violent and/or sexual, framed by the popular and everyday culture of that time.  Recommended highly!"   --Bruce Boston, Pushcart Prize and Bram Stoker Award author of The Guardener's Tale

Kiva logo

There is now a team for CGP/LP authors and readers established at Kiva.org, and everyone is invited to participate.  Kiva is an organization that allows you to loan amounts as small as $25 to entrepreneurs around the world, facilitated by local expert microfinance institutions, and allows you to choose who you loan to, follow your funding and see the status of those you choose to aid.  Kiva is not a charity, but a microfinancing organizer.  When you browse entrepreneurs' profiles on the site, choose someone to lend to, and then make a loan, you are helping a real person make great strides towards economic independence and improve life for themselves, their family, and their community. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates and track repayments. Then, when you get your loan money back, you can relend to someone else in need.

The CGP/LP team invites you to join us!  We will be mainly targeting entrepreneurs in the areas of arts, education, literature and culture, but there are many more types of people on the site, and you choose who you would like to loan to.
